The 100 Foot Journey

100foot

Rating:  A

Summary:  In a small town in the French countryside, a booming Indian restaurant opens up across from a Michelin French Restaurant.  The owners of both restaurants try to make life miserable for each other while love is blossoming between the chefs of each kitchen.

Ignore what the critics say, this movie is wonderful.  The cast is outstanding.  The story line is a bit predictable but you don’t care because you are so happy watching it. I cannot give this a high enough recommendation.   I rarely buy DVDs anymore but this is a definite MUST BUY!!!

Pitch Perfect

Image

Rating:  B+

Synopsis:

Semi-Bratty Kid gets a free ride to the university her dad teaches at but wants to be in New York to “make music”.  Joins the female show choir and decides to stick around.

Review:

I wasn’t sure about this movie, it seemed like a teenage movie.  I was pleasantly surprised at the fun I had watching Pitch Perfect.  It is a great little movie with only a few gross out scenes.  I love the soundtrack!

My Life in Ruins

Grade:  B

Premise: Georgia is an academic who loses her job at a Greek university.  She takes a job as a tour operator and learns to relax a bit.

Recommend: Yes.  This isn’t a laugh out loud funny movie but it is cute.  Total chick movie.  The tourist stereotypes get a little old.

Actor(s): Nia Vardalos, Richard Dreyfuss, Alexis Georgoulis

MirrorMask

Grade: can’t grade it

Premise: A girl whose father owns a circus and whose mother is sick goes into a strange world.

Recommend?: Well, I tried watching it. I made it through the first 30 minutes and had to shut it off. I’m sure it’s not a terrible movie, but it just wasn’t my thing. I wish they’d just make Neverwhere.

Battlestar Galactica – 2004 miniseries on SciFi Channel

Grade: B

Premise: Revamp of the 1970s series.

Recommend?: Yes. DH was watching one of the episodes a few months back and in an effort to spend a little quality time together, I sat down to join him. Needless to say – I’m hooked. I just watched the 3.5 hour miniseries today and it was pretty darn good. We are tivoing the actual series so that I can see the episodes that I missed. UGH! No more making fun of DH and his SciFi stuff, although Star Trek is still a big no with the exception of KHAAAAAAN!

A Place to house my thoughts

So I’ve recently become a Net Flix subscriber and started watching my three movies a week…I feel compelled to share my thoughts and this seems like the place to do it. I will also offer my thoughts on movies I actually go to the Theaters to see…

My Grading System:

A: Loved it, must buy the DVD and watch over and over

B: Liked it, glad I saw it, may not need to buy the DVD but I’d watch it on cable

C: Liked it, glad I saw it, don’t need to see it again

D: Just OK, was able to sit through it

F: Terrible, don’t need to see it again and was mad about the hours of my life I wasted

Enjoy
